New Award Announced for the RSV Bike Festival

SALT LAKE CITY (May 18, 2016)—The Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival presented by Subaru of Twin Falls is excited to introduce the Sun Valley All Mountain (SVAM) award presented by Sturtevants of Sun Valley and Limelight Hotel. New for 2016, SVAM is awarded to riders who live and breathe life on two wheels, fully embracing the spirit of the Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival. The SVAM is not for the faint of heart, as riders will need to demonstrate dominance in the “pedal-to-the-medal” Fox Trot 40 Cross-Country Race while quickly switching gears for the technical descents of the SCOTT Enduro Cup presented by Vittoria. Five men and five women with the highest overall score at the conclusion of this year’s four-day festival, will be crowned champions. The Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival takes place from June 23-26, 2016 in Sun Valley, ID. A short promotional video highlighting the events can be seen here.

END15_SV_JLATO-4003“Our objective in creating the Sun Valley All Mountain is to honor those well-rounded riders who excel in more than one discipline,” says Festival Director Seth Delorey. “The SVAM will challenge riders to push themselves outside their comfort zone, and will reward riders who have the ability to dominate the downhills and motor up the climbs. The SVAM is for the all-mountain athlete who was made for the trails.”

To be eligible for the Sun Valley All Mountain Award, a rider must register and race in both the Saturday Fox Trot 40 Cross-Country Race and the two enduro stages of Sunday’s SCOTT Enduro Cup presented by Vittoria. Riders receive points corresponding to their final standing in each of the three stages. Stages include the Fox Trot 40 XC Race (SVAM stage 1), Castle Creek Enduro stage (SVAM stage 2) and the Red Warrior Enduro stage (SVAM stage 3). Riders can earn half-a-point by participating in any of three ancillary races taking place at the Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival, including the SheepTown Drag Race (June 23), Prologue Time Trial and the Downtown Criterium (June 24). A full point is awarded to the first place winners of the SheepTown Drag Race. A $2,500 cash purse provided by Sturtevants and Limelight Hotel will be split among the podium.

RSV15_PROLOGUE_SEANRYAN-4745The Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival partners with local bike advocacy and trail stewardship group, Wood River Bike Coalition (WRBC) to ensure trails are cleaned up and repaired after the festival in accordance with area land managers. It was through this partnership that the Sun Valley All Mountain scoring and competition details were developed.

“The Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival highlights all the standout cycling opportunities offered in the Wood River Valley,” said WRBC Board Member Cameron Lloyd. “We look forward to seeing those riders who truly embrace the festival spirit—participating in the highly competitive, skill-based Enduro and Fox Trot events as well as our more festive celebrations, like the SheepTown Drag Race and Downtown Criterium—be crowned festival champions with the Sun Valley All Mountain.”

Scoring is weighted, making the total number of possible points for the two enduro stages equal to the total number of points earned in the cross-country race. A rider’s final position to the podium will correlate with the number of points earned.
